We are a community of creative and dedicated people who are passionate about the arts in all their many forms. The CAP program will be offered in the Fall (September to December) term at Emily Carr University. Prominent instructors during the Second World War included Bruno and Molly Lamb Bobak, Fred Amess and B.C.

Your Bachelor of Fine Arts degree provides a studio-based education reflecting the diversity and complexity of contemporary art practices, critical inquiry, process and making. The only university in British Columbia dedicated solely to art, media, and design, we offer diverse and exciting programs for undergraduate, graduate and continuing studies. Walt Disney was longtime friends with both Chouinard and Lulu May Von Hagen, the chair of the Conservatory, and discovered and trained many of his studio's artists at the two schools (including Mary Blair, Maurice Noble, and some of the Nine Old Men, among others).

CalArts moved to its new campus in Valencia, now part of the city of Santa Clarita, California, in November 1971. We recommend that at least 50% of your portfolio work should be original, self-directed projects – work you have done outside of structured classes. Emily Carr University is situated on unceded, traditional and ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish) and səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples.
It boasted an enrolment of over 1,250 full-time students and more than 3,200 continuing studies students taught by a combined full-time and sessional staff of 172 instructors. In 2008, by government decree, Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design achieved university status to become Emily Carr University of Art and Design. The university began offering an increased number of academic courses in art history, design history, English, humanities, media history, science and the social sciences. Emily Carr is one of the oldest post-secondary institutions in British Columbia and the only one dedicated to professional education in the arts, media, and design. All applicants to Emily Carr University’s degree programs must submit a portfolio through Slideroom.

Individually, Danny Elfman and Grant-Lee Phillips never officially enrolled at CalArts, but participated in the world music courses at CalArts. Completed for $123 million, it was designed by Diamond and Schmitt Architects on a site granted jointly to Emily Carr University, Simon Fraser University and the British Columbia Institute of Technology. All three institutions are involved in the Centre for Digital Media, which adjoins the new Emily Carr campus. How To Apply
You should submit 10 to 15 examples of your most recent work that best represents your diversity of interests and skills. Students may be required to take one or two terms depending on their skill level and academic progression through the program. Your admission average is calculated on your final year academic courses/exams and must include at least two GCSEs (O Levels) and three GCEs (A Levels), or must include at least six Advanced Subsidiary Levels. Emily Carr welcomes applications from students who have completed their GCSEs (O Levels) and GCEs (A Levels), either in Great Britain or at one of many British Pattern schools around the world.

Further growth occurred in the 1970s as the school moved into rented facilities at the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) and studio spaces on Water Street in Gastown. The School achieved broader administrative control in 1978 when it attained independent art college status with a provincial mandate. Coinciding with its move to new, larger facilities on Granville Island in 1980, the institution was renamed the Emily Carr College of Art by the provincial government in recognition of Emily Carr — the province’s, and one of Canada’s, most famous artists. At the time, students were concerned that naming the college after Emily Carr would detract from the school’s focus on contemporary art and life. Grade 12 graduation with a minimum grade point average of 2.5 (C+) calculated on five grade 12 courses that are equivalent to the applicants from British Columbia and Yukon requirements (see above), including senior-level English with a minimum grade of C. As Emily Carr is an accredited degree-granting institution, you will also have access to many international funding agencies. If you are a United States citizen you can apply for Stafford Loans to attend Emily Carr. International students planning to study here need to secure financing through their home country. Candidates who meet Emily Carr’s visual art portfolio and academic admissions requirements but do not meet the minimum IELTS score and whose IELTS score is not lower than 5.5 in any skill area may apply for the Creative Art Pathway program.
The ground-breaking for CalArts' current campus took place on May 3, 1969, as part of the Master Plan for a new planned community in the Santa Clarita Valley of Los Angeles. However, construction of the new campus was hampered by torrential rains, labor shortages, and the Sylmar Earthquake in 1971. As a result, the first combined campus for the Institute started at the former Villa Cabrini Academy (now the home of Woodbury University) in July 1970.
Recipients of the award have a visiting artist residency at CalArts, mentor students, and sometimes premiere work at REDCAT.
